Modern Finance invites researchers to contribute to a special issue dedicated to exploring the applications of generative artificial intelligence (GAI) in finance. Generative AI has emerged as a powerful tool with the ability to generate realistic and novel data, opening new avenues for innovation in financial modeling, risk management, investment strategies, and customer engagement. We seek papers that explore the advances, challenges, opportunities, and novel applications at the intersection of generative AI and finance.

Topics of Interest:

We invite submissions that explore various aspects of the use of generative AI in finance, including but not limited to:

  • Synthetic data generation: Techniques for generating synthetic financial data for training machine learning models, backtesting trading strategies, and simulating market scenarios.
  • Portfolio optimization: Applications of generative AI to optimize investment portfolios, asset allocation, and risk management strategies.
  • Fraud and anomaly detection: Using Generative AI models to detect fraudulent activity, identify anomalies in financial transactions, and enhance security measures.
  • Algorithmic trading strategies: Developing Generative AI-based algorithms for automated trading, market making, and high-frequency trading.
  • Customer personalization: Applying generative AI to personalize financial services, marketing messages, and customer interactions to improve customer satisfaction and retention.
  • Scenario analysis and stress testing: Using generative AI to perform scenario analysis and stress testing to assess the resilience of financial institutions and investment portfolios under varying market conditions.
  • Explainability and interpretability: Addressing the challenges of explainability and interpretability of Generative AI models in finance to enhance trust and transparency.

Submission Guidelines:

  • Manuscript types: We welcome original research articles, reviews, case studies, and short communications.
  • Methodologies: Empirical, theoretical, computational, and experimental approaches, as well as interdisciplinary studies, are encouraged.
